‘Too big’: Darren Bent tells Chelsea not to appoint manager who’s reportedly on their final shortlist

‘Too big’: Darren Bent tells Chelsea not to appoint manager who’s reportedly on their final shortlist.

Chelsea has received an explanation from Darren Bent as to why one of the managers on their final shortlist shouldn’t be in charge at Stamford Bridge come next season.

Following Mauricio Pochettino’s voluntary departure from the team, the Blues are currently searching for a new head coach.

It’s interesting to note that there have been rumours in the media that the shortlist has already been reduced to four candidates.

The Telegraph reported on Thursday that Kieran McKenna of Ipswich, Enzo Maresca of Leicester City, Thomas Frank of Brentford, and an unidentified fourth candidate are on Chelsea’s management shortlist.

Chelsea warned one manager could be a real mistake

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is rumoured to be interested in Chelsea, which TalkSPORT pundits Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent find offensive.

There are rumours that the choice of the 38-year-old manager was a “major blunder” since he has the necessary expertise for the important role at the Bridge.

To be fair, McKenna has never had a top managerial job prior to his current one at Ipswich. But in the last two seasons, he’s accomplished the amazing feat of being promoted from League One to the Premier League back-to-back.

“I love Kieran McKenna for what he’s done at Ipswich,” Bent said on talkSPORT. That’s a big jump to Chelsea. First and foremost, he has never managed a Premier League match.

Although they are a large club, Ipswich is not Chelsea.

“I believe it’s a terrible mistake if that’s who they go after,” TalkSPORT anchor Goldstein later said, adding that “Kieran McKenna, who’s not used to managing big personalities and large egos, is thrown in at the deep end.”

Why do Chelsea want Kieran McKenna?

Right now, McKenna ought to be kicking back and enjoying Ipswich’s most recent promotion.

Then, he should be concentrating on supporting the team in the Premier League the next season, as it will be his first genuine taste of the top flight. He did, after all, serve as Manchester United’s assistant coach for a while.

Rather than that, his name has been making waves in the media as certain Premier League teams look for a new manager. Clubs higher up the ladder must be considering McKenna right now due to his astounding track record of achievement over the past few years.

This is his record with Ipswich as their manager since taking over in the middle of the 2021 League One season.

He has accomplished all of this while leading his Ipswich team to play exciting possession-based football.

Still, is he really going to be able to reproduce it from day one in the Chelsea hot seat?
