“It’s huge for me,” he stated on the club’s official website.
“I always wanted to play one game for the national team. Coming from such a young age to England and working my way up to success at Aston Villa and with the national team, gaining one (cap) was a privilege.
“Back-to-back (Yashin Trophies) is something I never imagined. I’m just glad to be here today. Thank you to my family and friends.
“Sometimes, when you’re on the field, you behave in a way that helps you win.
“Off the pitch, I’m a father, a proud man, a husband, and a son. On the pitch, I want to do everything I can to support my national team and my club, Aston Villa. “We’re doing wonderful things in the club, and we’re moving forward. We won back-to-back trophies with the national team, and that’s all I care about.” Martinez may receive a rest against Palace, with manager Unai Emery expected to make significant changes to his squad.
