A star player is urging Celtic to come back, regretting his £25 million transfer to Saudi Arabia.
Jota, a former winger for Celtic, is urging a reunion with the Scottish Champions. The 24-year-old regrets choosing to play for Al Ittihad during the summer.
Incoming boss Marcelo Gallardo will look to put his own stamp on the team and that may include moving on the Portuguese attacker As reported by So3ody Sports, a Saudi outlet via Record Sport, Jota regrets making the move – which was purely financial.
The move quickly soured when he was not included in their squad list, limiting him to ACL and Domestic Cup squads only.
Al Ittihad likely don’t see much to lose from cutting a player that they’ve only recently spent tens of millions of pounds on. The Jeddah club will likely look to free up a space for another name from Europe that garners more fanfare – like Fabinho, Kante and Benzema.
For Jota, though, he’s in no-man’s land. He left Celtic for a lucrative proposal but no one will be able or willing to match those wages in Europe. Celtic could be a route back to football but it seems far fetched. Brendan Rodgers has already said that he wants the club to bring in quality and Jota would certainly be in that category.
Jota has made 83 appearances for Celtic, contributing 26 assists and 28 goals. The Portuguese player is a huge favorite of the Celtic fans, and we would gladly welcome him back. Spurs and Ange Postecoglou have also been mentioned as potential suitors, so you would think that a few teams would be keen to pull him in from the cold.
