Sunderland chances of appointing ‘fantastic’ EFL boss this summer all but over

It is possible that one of the managers connected to Sunderland won’t be leaving this summer.

As Sunderland prepares for a crucial summer, hiring a manager is at the top of their priority list.

In addition to adding the required depth to the first team roster, the Black Cats have been assigned perhaps their most significant management appointment of the Kyril Louis-Dreyfus period thus far.

When it comes to the hierarchy, the fans are at a standstill, so Louis-Dreyfus and company must persuade them of their goals and capacities and appoint the ideal management.

Sunderland manager latest

Rene Maric is the new name on the list of managers connected to Sunderland.

Prior to the summer, the current manager of Bayern Munich U19s has been connected to the opening at the Stadium of Light.

The 31-year-old Maric, who has coached teams like Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United in the past, may get his first managerial position at Sunderland this summer.

Although there haven’t been any recent mentions of Paul Heckingbottom, last week’s reports indicated that Will Still is still a person of interest on Wearside.

This summer, Jermain Defoe has expressed desire in taking Michael Beale’s place once more, though it’s not believed that he will be given any thought.

What is the latest on Danny Rohl to Sunderland

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl applauds the fans after the Sky Bet Championship match between Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday at Rive...

Danny Rohl, the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, was also reportedly on Sunderland’s short list of potential managers before the summer arrived.

This season, Wednesday has drawn attention from both the #2 player for Bayern Munich and the former #2 player for the German national team.

He is the youngest boss in the Football League at age 31.

However, since taking over at Hillsborough in October, he hasn’t displayed any symptoms of inexperience; he has accumulated 50 points in the Championship and has the Owls poised for safety going into their match against Sunderland on the last day.

With Plymouth Argyle tucked in between, Sheffield Wednesday is in 20th place in the standings, three points ahead of Birmingham City in 22nd.

The Owls now look likely to stay in the division, which will all but kill Sunderland’s chances of hiring him this summer.

Pundit Carlton Palmer previously described Rohl’s work at Sheffield Wednesday as ‘fantastic’.

Danny Rohl now likely to stay at Sheffield Wednesday

Rohl’s relationship with Sheffield Wednesday is quite strong.

Their supporters adore him, and should he succeed in keeping them in the Championship—which now seems more likely than not—he will go down in club history.

Additionally, if Wednesday wins the division, there is a greater likelihood that Rohl would remain with the team, thereby eliminating any possibility that Sunderland could sign the German this summer.

But, there are other names being considered for Louis-Dreyfus and company.

Additionally, Rohl may look for a move later in the summer or during the upcoming season if he doesn’t have the support he needs at Sheffield Wednesday.

But by which point Sunderland will hopefully have a good manager in place.

Sunderland and Rohl’s paths may cross one day, but for the time being it doesn’t look like it’ll happen this summer.
