Amad Diallo sends Coventry City warning to team-mates ahead of FA Cup semi-final

Amad Diallo, a winger for Manchester United, was on loan at Sunderland in the Championship the previous season. The Ivory Coast international had a successful stay and warned his colleagues about Coventry City, their opponents in Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final.

Even though Amad isn’t a regular in Erik ten Hag’s squad, the 21-year-old has enough Championship experience to offer valuable perspective on Sunday’s opponent.

Amad was a standout player for the Black Cats under former Sunderland manager Tony Mowbray. In 42 games overall, he scored 14 goals and provided 4 assists in all competitions.

It’s unclear if Ten Hag would start the Ivorian in the starting lineup at Wembley this weekend after Amad’s injury-time goal against Liverpool sealed United’s semi-final spot.

Amad clarified to club media (via ManUtd.com) that even if Mark Robins’ team is in a lower league than the premier league, they should not be taken lightly. He also mentioned Ellis Simms, his former teammate at Sunderland.

We are eager to take on Coventry in that game. I’m going to meet Ellis Simms, the striker who was my teammate. My teammates seem prepared for that match, in my opinion. Going to the final is our goal if we win.

“I had an amazing day following that goal [in the quarterfinal].” I was pleased with the last-minute goal I scored against a formidable side like Liverpool. After achieving that objective, it greatly boosts my confidence. I prepared for every game by training every day, so I was prepared for that particular game. I’m always prepared on the bench, regardless of whether I play or not. I was thrilled and felt so confident after achieving that aim.

Amad also talked about his most recent encounter with Coventry, adding, “I remember we lost that game 2-1 but I scored a goal right before the end.”

“Coventry is a youthful yet incredibly exciting team. I’m not sure which squad they have this season, but I do recall that they had a fairly youthful squad with a striker named Viktor Gyokeres who ended up joining Sporting. They are an extremely formidable football squad that just attacks.
