Villas-Boas discloses a “Heavy Debate” on Tottenham’s “Unfortunate” Inability to Sign a Former Wolves Player.

Andre Villas-Boas, the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, disclosed

that he and their board had “massive arguments” over an unsuccessful transfer.

This player is former Wolves midfielder Joao Moutinho, who was strongly

connected to a number of Premier League teams before to moving to the

West Midlands for approximately £5 million in 2018 from AS Monaco, a Ligue Un team.

Throughout his five years with Wolves, the Portugal international

made over 200 games and has always been a refined operator.

Although he was rumored to be returning to Porto in the summer, he

ultimately signed a one-year contract to play for rival Braga.

When Villas-Boas joined Chelsea in 2011, many thought he would be the next

big thing in management, but he was fired in less than a year.

Before the 2012–13 season, the 46-year-old took over as head coach of

the Spurs, but he was fired after only about eighteen months. Since then, he

has had disappointing periods at Zenit Saint Petersburg, Shanghai SIPG, and

Marseille as his career has continued to collapse.

Villas-boas has since given thought to his tenure at Spurs. When Moutinho

was still a Porto player in the summer of 2012, he became interested in the 37-year-old.

The manager disclosed that Spurs had a stronger interest in signing Moussa Dembele than Moutinho.

At the Web Summit in Lisbon, Villas-Boas stated, “I wanted to sign Joao

Moutinho and he was sitting sixth on the list compiled by data people.” “[Moussa]

Dembele was first on the list, and we signed him.”

Tottenham news conts…

It emotionally depleted me to the point where, in the coach’s view, this player

represented everything that the stats did not indicate—namely, that he was a

player who understood your leadership, your style, and how to adapt to it.

This can be measured, but it has to be done from a coach’s perspective, not just

one viewpoint. This was the issue at first, and as a result, Moutinho and I

got into some really big disputes early on.

We were going to assemble a really potent midfield, so it was a shame

that we lost out on Moutinho when we got Dembele.

“This is the exact moment when you need to strike a balance in order to

determine your coaching philosophy and how to incorporate it into the data that has been given to you.”
