Clinton Morrison agrees with Curtis Davies as they rate Sheffield’s top six chances this season
On Tuesday night, Curtis Davies and Clinton Morrison, two Sky Sports commentators, talked about Sheffield Wednesday’s top six possibilities in the Championship.
The two were commentators for Tuesday night’s Carabao Cup Fourth Round match between Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford, which turned out to be an extremely captivating match.
Brentford had a 1-0 lead at halftime and appeared to be in complete control. However, Djeidi Gassama stunned the home team with a long-range goal before forcing penalties.
Liam Palmer missed the tenth penalty of the game, and Sheffield Wednesday lost the shootout 5–4.
Danny Rohl can now concentrate on the Championship, which is evidently his top aim this season based on his starting lineup at Brentford.
The Owls now find themselves in 13th place of the Championship table after Sheffield Wednesday’s comeback win at Portsmouth last weekend.
Up next is a game against Watford at Hillsborough this weekend.
Sky Sports pundits rate Sheffield Wednesday’s top six chances in the Championship
There were great expectations for a play-off run going into this season. These aspirations were then sealed after Sheffield Wednesday crushed Plymouth Argyle 4-0 on the first day.
However, they soon disintegrated after a highly inconsistent run of play. However, we’ve had some strong performances lately, including the Brentford game and the Pompey victory, which give us hope that we could finish in the top six.
And that’s exactly what Sky Sports expert Curtis Davies suggested. Before Tuesday’s game against Brentford, he said, “They [Sheffield Wednesday] are looking good going forward,”
However, it depends on how far they can go, and I believe that the Championship isn’t very strong this year if anything.
“Therefore, this year is going to be their best chance.”
“Curtis is right, they have a good outside chance of finishing in that top six this season,” said Clinton Morrison, a former striker for the Owls.
Danny Rohl knows Sheffield Wednesday are still outsiders in the Championship
Speaking before the game, Rohl revealed that his side are 5th in the 2024 Championship table.
It’s certainly impressive, and certainly reason to believe that a top six finish is possible this season.
However, a real promotion push still looks a long way off in the thoughts of fans and perhaps Rohl as well.
Rohl stated early in the season that he still believes the Owls’ first team is far from where it should be and that he has a clear notion of what he wants to do in the next two transfer windows.
“Even though the next window is a little bit away, I already have a clear idea of what we need to do in the next two windows,” Rohl stated.
On Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday vs. Watford will begin at 3 p.m.
