Breaking News; £19m star Amad spotted watching Sunderland 2-0 Oxford United amid Man Utd contract uncertainty.
The Manchester United player witnessed Sunderland’s Championship triumph over Oxford United on Saturday.
Amad Diallo was observed watching Sunderland’s triumph against Oxford United from home due to concern over his future at Manchester United.
When Amad, 22, joined Manchester United in 2021 for £19 million, he signed a contract until June 2025, with the possibility of an extra £18.2 million if certain requirements were reached. The agreement also provides the option to extend for another year.
Amad was loaned out by Manchester United to Sunderland and Rangers after struggling to establish himself in the first team. The offensive midfielder has now returned to Manchester United and has demonstrated exceptional talent, helping the Red Devils win the FA Cup last season with a late winner against rivals Liverpool in the quarterfinals.
However, during United’s most recent Europa League encounter against Fenerbahce, manager Erik ten Hag ignored Amad. The match was deadlocked at 1-1 when Ten Hag turned to Antony instead of Amad, who had a thunderous expression as he came in with only a minute left.
On Saturday, Amad was spotted on Instagram enjoying Sunderland’s 2-0 home win against Oxford United at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats now lead the Championship by five points with 12 games played in the 2024-25 season.
“Amad, he is doing well,” Ten Hag stated after the game. “But I must also recognize Antony’s performance in training. He poses a danger in practically every training session, therefore I felt it was the proper thing to do to put him on to determine the game.”
With Amad’s contract expiring, it is unknown whether Manchester United would exercise their option to extend it for another year, and the former Sunderland loanee’s future remains uncertain with the club in upheaval under new co-owners INEOS. Amad was again left out of the starting XI against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
Sunderland inquired about re-signing the player on loan last summer again in January, but were informed that he was unavailable. Amad completed last season in fantastic form, scoring a spectacular winner against Liverpool in the FA Cup and appearing often in the Premier League.
