Linus Ullmark, a former Boston Bruins goalkeeper, was in the crosshairs of a dramatic finale to a Senators victory.
Ottawa led the Blues 7-1 in the waning minutes of the third period Tuesday night. A skirmish broke out in front of Jordan Binnington’s net, so the St. Louis goalie took it upon himself to pull Brady Tkachuk from a melee. The referees moved the goaltender away from the Senators’ star, and Binnington skated to center ice to face Ullmark. The former Bruin didn’t disappoint as the Sens won 8-1 at Canadian Tire Centre.
Ullmark doesn’t have a fighting reputation, but Boston fans may recall when the 31-year-old attempted to fight Matthew Tkachuk during the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. The veteran did not receive his wish, and he explained why he did not react to Binnington’s challenge.
According to the Senators, Ullmark stated that he did not feel compelled to defend his teammates and that Binnington simply “shrugged his shoulders.” He also stated that he believes Brady is capable of taking care of himself.
