October is over and for Nottingham Forest, it represents a chance to take stock for Nottingham Forest.
The month began with a 1-1 draw at Chelsea where Forest played their part in a 1-1 draw with James Ward-Prowse’s sending off leaving the Reds with 10 men.
That result was followed by a home game with Crystal Palace and a trip to Leicester City for an all-East Midlands affair.
Forest went and won both games to climb up to seventh in the Premier League after nine games of the 2024/25 campaign.
On Friday night there were some good performers against the Foxes. Gary Neville picked out Forest star Elliot Anderson, whilst Chris Wood and Ryan Yates were the goalscorers.
Forest are kicking on under Nuno Espirito Santo and he’s been praised for transforming the Reds too.
With October now boxed off, the Team of the Month has been named and it makes for interesting reading.
Nottingham Forest star joins Chris Wood in Team of the Month
Who Scored knows their stuff when it comes to football statistics and clearly, it’s no surprise to see Wood make the grade for October.
The New Zealand international scored all but one of Forest’s goals during the month – with Yates grabbing the other at Leicester on Friday night.
Another player has joined Wood though and it’s Matz Sels for his performances through the month between the posts.
Sels was called ‘top-quality’ by Robert Sanchez after the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge and has really showcased his worth in October.
The 32-year-old kept a clean sheet in the game against Palace – his third of the campaign – whilst he played well in games against Chelsea and Leicester.
Sels might change Forest transfer approach in January
Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was linked with a Forest move during the summer and he wants out of Anfield.
However, with Alisson currently injured, Arne Slot might not be quite so willing to let him leave in January.
Forest have Carlos Miguel desperate for some game time too and perhaps now the club will stick rather than twist over their goalkeeping options.
Sels has proved himself as a solid custodian during October and it would take a brave man to drop him from the team at the moment.
The experienced player only cost the club £5.5 million from Strasbourg and Sels more than deserves his current status as the Forest number one.
