I had no regrets quitting Everton – now I could get a big-money move to Liverpool

Antonee Robinson has emerged as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League years after leaving Everton, and according to reports, the 27-year-old could be heading back to Merseyside

USA hero Antonee Robinson is allegedly a key target for Liverpool, years after the Fulham defender declared he had no regrets about

leaving bitter rivals Everton.

The United States international has established himself as one of the top full-backs in the Premier League, but he previously had a rough

stint at Everton. He joined the club as an 11-year-old in 2008 and stayed until 2019, but did not make a senior appearance before leaving.

Serious injuries, as well as the fact that Leighton Baines and Lucas Digne were ahead of him in the pecking order, led him to leave the club

for Wigan Athletic after a successful loan spell in 2018/19.

After only one season with the Latics, Robinson left for Fulham following their relegation to League One due to a 12-point penalty for

entering administration. The 27-year-old, who was close to signing AC Milan before joining Fulham, talked to the ECHO after Wigan were

relegated to England’s third division and disclosed the circumstances around his Goodison left, stating he had no regrets.

“Not one regret,” Robinson said. “Everton were always quite honest with me; they just stated, ‘We’ve let go of a few players, but we

absolutely need to keep Bainesy. We can’t get go of Jags, the captain, while also losing Baines.

“It’s getting rid of a lot of Everton in the changing room, and he’s still a great player. We’ve got him, and Digne starts for us, so you’ll have

to wait for two injuries to start, and you won’t even make the bench right now, so we think it’s best for you to leave. “It’s not about you;

you just need to play.”I am grateful they were so upfront and honest with me since it allowed me to go on and progress elsewhere.”

Robinson, some five years after leaving the club, could be ready to return to Merseyside, with Liverpool apparently interested in signing

him. According to Give Me Sport, Arne Slot’s team will face stiff competition for his signature, with Manchester United and Chelsea also

interested.

With the club making only one signing during the summer transfer window, it has been reported that the Reds are considering making a

bid for Robinson during the winter transfer window or next summer.
