Stoke City welcome Portsmouth to the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday for the first meeting between the two sides in 10 years.
The previous encounter in the EFL Cup first round resulted in a 3-0 victory for the Potters thanks to Jonathan Walters’ brace and a late header from former Pompey forward Peter Crouch.
Since that encounter on Stanley Matthews Way, Portsmouth have worked their way back up the EFL pyramid with promotion from the fourth tier in 2017 followed by a further rise through the system after claiming the League One title at the end of last season.
Following their return to the Championship after a 12-year exile, Pompey have collected four points from their opening seven matches thanks to four draws, including a goalless encounter with Sheffield United on Saturday.
Portsmouth’s start to the campaign sees them sit three places behind the Potters, who will be targeting a third win of the campaign, and first under new Head Coach Narcís Pèlach, when they take on the South Coast side in ST4.
