LUKE WILLIAMS | AS A CLUB, WE DESIRE A PERFORMANCE THAT REFLECTS OUR IDENTITY

When Swansea City plays Cardiff City in the south Wales derby this afternoon (3pm), Luke Williams will exhort his team to put on a show worthy of the best playing traditions of the club.

The Swans, who had dominated the rivalry in the fixture for the majority of the previous ten years, will host the first derby of the season. This will be the first league match between the teams played in August since 1987.

The Swans’ 2-0 victory over the opponents in their most recent meeting was described by head coach Williams as a turning point in his team’s development.

As the most recent episode in a 112-year rivalry approaches, he wants his side to continue playing with the combination of control and attacking danger that defined their victories against Preston North End and Gillingham.

“Trying to remember who we are and how we like to play football is our best strategy in every game we play,” said Williams.

“In the past two Swansea performances, we have witnessed more of the identity that we adore.”

“We complemented our control with a multitude of offensive options. In our first two games, we have six goals.

We took our time passing the ball to one another throughout our extended periods. That’s what we desire.

Since we are aware that this is a cup game, we must, at the very least, be the brightest, finest rendition of it. At the conclusion of this one, too, they simply award points.
