Gallen and Suárez lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox, securing their fifth consecutive win

Gallen and Suárez lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox, giving them their fifth straight win.

Zac Gallen threw six innings, giving up only two hits, and Eugenio Suárez knocked a two-run double off the Green Monster to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 4-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. This is the Diamondbacks’ sixth consecutive victory.

Gallen (10-6) made his debut appearance at Fenway Park and struck out nine hitters while walking four, collecting double-digit victories for the third year in a straight. He had a no-hitter until the fifth inning, when Connor Wong singled to right field. Gallen exited after 99 pitches, with Arizona up 4-0 in the top of the seventh inning.

Before the game, Gallen wrote his name inside the Green Monster and was astonished by the sounds of batting practice. He recalled a tour of the ballpark he took with his mother in high school, as well as some games he saw in college.

Kutter Crawford returned to the bench in the fifth inning.

“It’s fun to think about being on the mound with the guys that have played here over the last hundred years,” Gallen told reporters. “It’s entertaining to see ‘Sweet Caroline’ in the eighth inning. You grew up a baseball fan; those are memories that remain with you.”

The Diamondbacks have won 23 of their past 29 games and now lead the NL wild card race. They are four games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West.

The Red Sox had only three hits through eight innings, but began the ninth with back-to-back hits off Paul Sewald, scoring once and making it 4-1 before Sewald retired the next three players.

Boston’s Kutter Crawford (8-11) allowed three hits in five innings, walking two and striking out three. Boston’s pitchers issued six walks, four of which allowed Arizona to score two runs in the seventh inning without a hit.
