Burnley’s manager offers a refined assessment of Sunderland’s loss and the areas where his team failed.

Sunderland defeated Burnley on Saturday, moving them to the top of the standings.

Although Scott Parker acknowledged that his Burnley team wasn’t at its best against Sunderland on Saturday, he believed that a week of unrest behind the scenes had also contributed.

Romaine Mundle’s goal gave the Black Cats a well-earned lead as they controlled the first half. Although Burnley had more possession of the ball in the second half, the hosts may have had the better opportunities to score.

Parker expressed his admiration for Sunderland’s performance and stressed the importance of his team signing players before the window closes. Due to injuries, Josh Cullen and Luca Koleosho were unable to play, and Manuel Benson and Wout Weghorst were left out ahead of probable departures. Important central defender Dara O’Shea was not present for the match as he is getting close to joining Ipswich Town.

“I think we’re disappointed with the result, we came here today to get a result first and foremost,” Parker said.

“We went into the game with the same record as our opponent, which was a very talented team. We simply didn’t have enough of something today for the most part, in both game stages. Not that we actually created. We were aware of the place’s characteristics, including its rocking vibe, and we had difficulties in the beginning. We simply lacked intensity when we did manage to get control. We were not the aggressive team I wanted us to be.

“We never really competed in certain moments and didn’t really exert any pressure on Sunderland who to be fair, did very well.”The positive side is them. It was something we were missing. Probably contributed to by the difficult week we’ve had and the adjustments we had to make. Because of our squad’s lack of depth, we had some difficulty forcing the game and making adjustments today. At the end of the game, we attempted to make changes, but it was unsuccessful. That’s basically where we are at this point. We continued to play, but in the back of my mind, I didn’t think we were seriously hurting them.

Although there were some doubts over whether Mundle was offside when he scored the first goal, Parker claimed there was ultimately nothing to be upset about for his team.

“They [the commentators] have stated that it’s absolutely correct, but to be fair, if we are sincere about how we began and how the game was progressing, it was inevitable. We had to prepare for their certain rapid departure from the game. What irritates me is that at times, I felt like they played with more personality and vigour than we did. There was something we were lacking, and we will make it right.
