Regis Le Bris sets Sunderland challenge for Romaine Mundle after Jack Clarke decision

Following his performance against Burnley, Romaine Mundle, who won the match, received a challenge from Regis Le Bris to “hit the repeat button” in order to succeed at Sunderland.

After the Black Cats agreed to transfer Jack Clarke to Ipswich in a transaction for more than £15 million, Mundle was added to the starting lineup.

And the 21-year-old took full advantage of his opportunity, putting on a terrific display against the Clarets that included a spectacular goal in the 26th minute.

Mundle, a former Tottenham youth product who joined from Standard Liege in February, finished off a fantastic performance at the Stadium of Light by cutting inside his opponent and hitting low inside the far corner from inside the area.

With that goal, Sunderland won three games in a row without giving up a goal, marking the first time in the team’s history that a season began that way under new head coach Le Bris.

“I am not really surprised by Romaine because we saw his qualities during the friendly games,” the former Lorient manager remarked.

“He put a lot of effort into the training sessions last week, so I’m not shocked by the skills he shown today.

“The ability to repeat oneself repeatedly and with consistency are crucial.” That’s the distinction between elite athletes and elite teams.

Le Bris went on, “We played the game we wanted to play and had a very good first 25 minutes.” But the only thing I regret is that we only managed one goal. We have to score another goal to maintain this momentum.

“We gave up the late red card, but I was pleased with our defence after that.” There was a strong sense of teamwork. We want to maintain that clean slate and safeguard our objective.

With five minutes remaining, Sunderland’s captain Dan Neil—who had already received a warning for disobedience—was sent off for a second yellow after bringing down Zeki Amadouni, but the team managed to maintain their lead.

However, Burnley did not really deserve to take a point because they were unable to put custodian Anthony Patterson to the test. Burnley left out Dara O’Shea and Manuel Benson because to Premier League interest.

Parker stated, “(I’m) bitterly disappointed not to get the result, playing against a very good side with the same record as us, undefeated,” implying that O’Shea “will be leaving.”

In a lot of areas, we were lacking. There were times when we weren’t truly a threat. In the beginning of the game, we had trouble keeping up with the anticipation that this place would be rocking.

“I think it’s fair to say that we lacked an intensity when we did manage to get control.

“I probably didn’t anticipate some of it. There are a few reasons behind that. We’ll restart and continue.

We had some difficulty with the squad’s depth. That’s our current situation. We find ourselves in such situation with the window open.

Despite winning their first two games of the season with nine goals, Burnley was unable to muster anything on Wearside.

Sunderland had a great start. Mundle had already come near with a cross, and Chris Rigg had a chance before he scored.

Patrick Roberts first volleyed Mundle’s run and cross back across goal. The ball wound right back at Mundle’s feet despite cries of offside, and he skilfully created space before hitting low inside the far corner.

Lyle Foster, a striker for Burnley, had a chance to tie the score late in the first half but missed Vitinho’s cross at the back post.

Dennis Cirkin, Mundle, and Eliezer Mayenda all had more Sunshine opportunities; the latter, although occasionally being reluctant to shoot, flicked a shot into the goalkeeper’s hands.

Burnley made an effort to earn a point after Neil received his second caution for tripping substitute Amdouni in the closing moments. Still, Sunderland held firm.
