Norwich City have completed the signing of attacking midfield prospect Oscar Schwartau from Danish side Brondby.
The 18-year-old signed a four-year contract at Carrow Road, with the option to extend it by another year. The Canaries
will pay Brondby an initial sum of roughly £2 million, plus a 15 percent sell-on option, according to reports in
Denmark.
Schwartau will instantly join the first team at Norwich, but he was not registered in time to play in today’s
Championship match against Sheffield United.
He has played in a variety of positions in midfield, out wide, and up attack, and his versatility is one of the reasons City
sporting director Ben Knapper recognized him as a potential signing.
He has 13 caps for Denmark’s under-19 team, scoring four times, as well as 46 senior matches and six goals at club level after coming
through Brondby’s academy system.
Schwartau told club channels that the transfer is a major milestone for him. I am extremely appreciative for this opportunity. Coming to
this major club is a great place to be, therefore I’m extremely pleased.
“I’m very excited, it’s going to be different moving to another country but I’m looking forward to it.”
Knapper stated, “Oscar is one of the most exciting talents in Danish football, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring him to Norwich City.”
“Despite being only 18 years old, he already has extensive experience in senior football, both domestic and European. We are confident that
in our atmosphere, we can continue to develop him till he reaches his full potential.
“He’ll need time, of course, but we’re looking forward to working with him and integrating him into our first-team group.”
Head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup witnessed his new charge’s abilities firsthand while managing Nordsjaelland in Denmark, where he
watched his compatriot score an incredible back heel in a 5-1 loss to Brondby in 2023.
“He’s a good player, a player with very good timing in his game,” Thorup remarked of Schwartau at his pre-Blades press conference. “He’s
good at reading situations and entering the box at the perfect time. He has a terrific vision for scoring goals and contributing offensively.
“He can cover a lot of territory and has a terrific build. He began his career in the Danish league and has been exposed to a competitive
atmosphere for several years, despite his youth.”
City’s sixth summer signing takes over the number 29 shirt left vacant by Adam Forshaw when he moved for Plymouth Argyle in January.
