Following a “scrubby” incident in the Rangers vs. Ross County game, Cyriel Dessers made a statement.

Neil McCann has criticised Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers for a “scrubby” incident that occurred in the first half of the match against Ross County.

Saturday, August 24, at Hampden Park, saw Philippe Clement’s team lead 2-0 at the half courtesy of goals from Nigerian forward and departing winger Rabbi Matondo in the first half.

BBC analyst McCann was quick to condemn Dessers for his “untidy” and “loose” play outside of the penalty area, despite the striker’s stellar start to the season.

He made the following statement when appearing on BBC Radio Scotland Extra on August 24, 15:20: “He has scored big goals and he has a good goal return.”

His strategy contains several extremely sloppy parts; that’s why I called it scrubby.

His runs are excellent, but he often simply doesn’t take use of the opportunities that present itself. I believe that he is simply messy. His link play has to be much, much better.

However, you can’t deny that he has scored some significant goals already this season.

Regarding Ibrox transfer rumours, will Cyriel Dessers leave Rangers?

With his latest statements, McCann has managed to encapsulate Dessers’ views neatly in a few sentences. Yes, the forward has a great goal return rate, but his effort outside of the penalty area and hold-up play are extremely lacking.

Will Cyriel Dessers leave Rangers in light of rumours of an Ibrox transfer?

With his new remarks, McCann has managed to encapsulate Dessers in a few succinct sentences. While the forward’s goal return is impressive, his work outside of the penalty area and hold-up play are woefully inadequate.

The Nigerian forward seems like he would be extremely effective in a two-man strike force if his teammate did all of the work outside of the penalty area and his only job was to locate the net and operate inside it.

Cyriel Dessers

Cyriel Dessers scored 22 goals in all competitions during his first season at Rangers.

Ultimately, he wouldn’t be a Rangers player right now if he was a full-fledged centre forward.

Given their current financial and footballing circumstances, the Light Blues are unlikely to sign players in their entirety.

According to reports, if a late offer is made for the forward’s signature, he may yet decide to leave Glasgow [Luca Bendoni, 20 August].

The first part of the match on Saturday afternoon demonstrates that Clement is in no financial position to approve his sale at this late stage of the summer.
