Cleverley desires Watford to raise standards.

It’s amazing to think that Watford only achieved back-to-back home victories twice since the beginning of the previous season when they defeated Stoke on Saturday.

The Hornets only won two straight at home this season, and that was against Rotherham and Norwich in November.

When he took over, Tom Cleverley quickly saw that home form and performances were important, and he knows that in order for the team to gain points, confidence, and belief, they must continue to perform.

He stated, “I think the team and the fans need to work together at home games, but I’ll always see the team performance as the catalyst.”

“Some games it will be a bit of a stalemate and we’ll need time to break down opposition and that’s when we’ll really need the fans to egg us on and get us over the line. I’m sure they will do that too.

“But from my end, my demand to our players will always be that they are the catalyst for the atmosphere in our stadium.

“We’re in a good moment at home. It’s a long time since we conceded and we’re scoring goals, but we’ll continue to work harder than ever to make that continue.”

The Hornets are enjoying their best goalscoring start to a season since 1978.

“I’ve not told the players to shoot more because I don’t want them just shooting on sight, but we’ve created some really solid patterns and ways of creating chances to score goals,” the Watford head coach explained.

“I believe that the players understand that very well, and it’s now becoming second nature.

“Perhaps that will indicate that you’ll witness a squad with a true identity.”

Naturally, higher expectations follow every victory and better effort.

Cleverley replied, “I’m sure I can handle that; I grew up at a club that was expected to win every week.”

“I want to lead a team that is recognised for its accomplishments. As stated earlier, my goal is to start the Luton game as the favourite.

“That would indicate that the season has gotten off to a strong start for us.

“It’s my responsibility to try to convey to the players that these are all things we do and how we do it; these are all things I felt comfortable around growing up.”

“And that’s without getting comfortable, sticking to the fundamentals, and still being difficult to beat.”
