Rangers finally take action after Brendan Rodgers and Celtic called out derby nonsense

Rangers have taken their time, but they are finally getting started on stadium improvements that will return away derby ticket allocations to respectable levels.

Celtic Park was upgraded over the summer to improve the matchday experience for away Rangers fans during derby matches, with a reciprocal investment across the city.

The Ibrox club and the SPFL agreed to allow approximately 5% of away supporters to attend Celtic and Rangers games, following years of significantly decreasing attendance.

Rangers did not fulfil their promise to complete the renovations in time for the season’s second derby around New Year.

As a result, Celtic opted not to provide Rangers fans tickets to the two clubs’ meeting next week at Celtic Park.In a media conference, Brendan Rodgers effectively pointed out who was to blame.

Rangers get going on stadium work needed for Celtic matches

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers has applied for planning permission to install nets at Ibrox as part of safety measures for Celtic fans attending derbies.

That means the work will ideally be completed well in advance of the two teams’ third and fourth league matches in 2025, when fans are expected to receive the agreed-upon allocations.

Celtic pressure on Rangers pays off

Celtic were correct in their decision to withhold tickets last week, and it appears that the public nature of the ongoing feud has now pushed the Ibrox sign into action on the problem.

Neither Rangers nor the SPFL recognised that the Bhoys’ withdrawal of tickets was due to their work delays. The pressure from the Scottish champions has resulted in the situation progressing.

Celtic have always emphasised their commitment to the reintroduction of big derby allocations. Hopefully, all of this petty crap from the blue side of Glasgow can now be set aside.
