Erek Carr has faced every NFL team except the Las Vegas Raiders. He was the team’s starting quarterback for nine years before joining the New Orleans Saints in the summer.
The Raiders, for the first time in his career, are on his schedule in Week 17, when the squad goes to New Orleans. It will be a while before the two teams face again, but Carr shared his thoughts on facing his previous squad, as well as admiration for head coach Antonio Pierce.
“Now it’s cause they’re all my friends,” Carr stated of the clash with Kay Adams on the August 22 episode of “Up & Adams.” “I love Pierce. I had a nice time being with him. I felt he was fantastic; I believe he’s ideal for the job. I adore Mark Davis. I have an excellent relationship with him.
“Davante Adams is one of my best buddies from college. We had a lot of memories together. Many of the team members are among my closest friends. If I saw them right now, we’d have a terrific time, but I’m trying to win Week 17.
Former head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler were the primary decision-makers in releasing Carr, but they are no longer with the team. Carr and the Raiders should have less hostility now that those two have left. Ziegler currently works in the front office for the Saints.
Derek Carr Talks Maxx Crosby
Carr has avoided facing Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, which has been an advantage. The two-time All-Pro has established himself as one of the NFL’s finest pass rushers, finishing last season with 14.5 sacks.
Carr understands how disruptive Crosby can be, so he’d rather see Crosby removed from the Week 17 game than face him.
“Maxx is one of my best friends,” Carr informed Adams. “But now that we aren’t on the same squad, I’m trying to get him kicked off. So I’m going to attempt and headbutt him when the ref isn’t looking, or whatever.”
Crosby has yet to get tossed from a game, but given how well Carr knows him, he may know how to get under his skin.
Tyrann Mathieu Has Praise for Derek Carr
Carr’s first season in New Orleans was disappointing, as the Saints missed the playoffs despite playing in the NFC South, the NFL’s worst division. His leash may be shorter than expected, especially if the team misses the playoffs again.
Despite rising pressure, Saints standout safety Tyrann Mathieu remains trust in the quarterback.
“I think he’s an excellent quarterback. It’s difficult to replace an icon like Drew Brees, and I can’t imagine what it’s like to be held to such high standards. “A phenomenal leader, one of the first guys in, last guys to leave building type guy,” Mathieu stated on the 20 episode of “The Jim Rome Show.”
