Marc Guehi reacts as £36m transfer completed amid Newcastle United links & Kieran Trippier advice

Newcastle United transfer target Marc Guehi wished former teammate and close pal Conor Gallagher “all the best” following his £36million move to Atletico Madrid.

Gallagher’s transfer to the La Liga team appeared to have fallen through last week after Chelsea’s attempt to sign Atletico Madrid striker Samu Omorodion failed. While he awaited word on his destiny, the 24-year-old went back to the Blues’ Cobham center and resumed his independent training.

Joao Felix arrived in the opposite direction earlier this week, reviving a trade that was reportedly worth £42 million. On Wednesday, the transactions were validated.

After joining Chelsea’s academy at the age of six, Gallagher’s 18-year relationship with the club comes to an end. The midfield player, who has frequently been connected to Newcastle, signed a five-year deal at Wanda Metropolitano.

In a parting note, Gallagher stated, “To everyone at Chelsea, thank you for making my dreams come true.” Being the team captain on several times was a dream come true, and it has been an amazing honor every time I put on the uniform. I cherished every second. These recollections will last always.

“Thank you to all of the fans for their love and support. It is a unique experience to hear my name being chanted at the Bridge, and I was really touched by the banner you put up. I appreciate all that you have done. I hope to see you all at Stamford Bridge soon and wish the club the best of luck in the future.”

Newcastle’s star Gallagher was reportedly urged by Kieran Trippier to sign with Atletico while serving abroad. The right-back moved to St. James’ Park in 2022 after two and a half productive years on Tyneside. Since Trippier, Gallagher will be the first Englishman to join the Madrid club.

Gallagher’s football career has been largely shaped by his partnership with Guehi; the two have played together at the youth level as well as with Swansea City, Crystal Palace, and England.

Messaged Gallagher over Instagram. Says Guehi: “I adore it. Best wishes, brother.

Whether Guehi completes a transfer this summer remains to be seen. Newcastle has made four bids for the Euro 2024 star; the most recent is thought to be for £65 million with add-ons. However, a deal has not yet been reached.

The two teams are still in talks, but in case an agreement cannot be struck, the Magpies have been considering other possibilities. With Joachim Andersen expected to sign a £30 million deal to join Fulham, Palace has already lost one center back.
