From her hospital bed, Sunderland resident Lauren Laverne discloses her cancer diagnosis and conveys a crucial message to others.
Lauren Laverne, a former musician from Sunderland who is now a BBC broadcaster, disclosed that she is undergoing treatment for cancer.
The presenter of Desert Island Discs and former star of Kenickie wrote on Instagram on Wednesday morning, stating that the cancer was “caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test”.
Furthermore, the 46-year-old told her followers that she was “expected to make a full recovery” and thanked the medical staff that had taken care of her.
She stated, “I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you. First and foremost, to the medical teams who have brought me this far with amazing skill and kindness. I’m in the hospital right now.”
“Their support and for giving me the time off that I need to get better” were two more things Lauren praised her coworkers for.
Now, some personal information… My diagnosis of cancer was received recently. I am anticipated to recover completely because, thank God, it was discovered early and unexpectedly during a screening test. I wanted to use this opportunity to express my gratitude while I’m in the hospital. First and foremost, I want to thank the medical staff for their excellent care and skill in getting me this far. I adore and am really grateful to my family and friends, who have been nothing short of amazing during this entire journey.Naturally, I also want to express my gratitude to my colleagues, especially those at @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow, and #DesertIslandDiscs, for their support and for allowing me to take the time off I require to recuperate. Additionally, I would want to urge you to schedule an appointment or avoid taking a test in order to be checked out—please, please, do so immediately. At some point, half of us will get cancer, and if you do, it’s critical to get diagnosed as soon as possible. I’m generally the one spreading the positive energy, but any extra you can throw around is always appreciated. Hugs to everyone aboard a similar boat or those who have returned to land. xxx.
The former St. Anthony’s student continued, saying that her friends and family “have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way”.
Additionally, advised those who were “avoiding a test or putting off an appointment” to get checked out today in a cautionary message to others.
“Half of us will get cancer at some point and finding out asap is everything,” she continued.

Aside from hosting the BBC 6 Music Breakfast Show, Lauren has hosted a number of TV shows, such as The One Show on the BBC and 10 O’Clock Live on Channel 4.
Nevertheless, she still has close ties to Sunderland. Her mother Celia Gofton, who passed away, was one of her family members who also held council positions. She is the niece of the late council chairman Paul Watson.
