Newcastle hold talks to beat Man Utd to “world-class” 7-time title winner

In an attempt to outdo Dan Ashworth and Manchester United this summer, Newcastle United is said to have contacted a highly sought-after midfield addition.

Newcastle transfer news

With ten days remaining before the start of the new Premier League season, Newcastle’s roster of newcomers remains somewhat disappointing. Lewis Hall, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly, and Odysseas Vlachodimos don’t exactly seem to indicate that a Champions League comeback is imminent, but Marc Guehi’s arrival might yet change that.

The Crystal Palace defender is apparently in discussions to join with St James’ Park, with the two parties even purportedly agreeing on personal terms. His arrival would give their summer some star power and provide Eddie Howe a significant defensive boost. Furthermore, before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, he could not be the only name to pass through.

William Osula, a promising player for Sheffield United, is supposedly close to finalizing a £15 million deal with add-ons. But the player who may make the news is a midfielder.

CalcioMercato reports that Newcastle has had negotiations to recruit Adrien Rabiot, who is a free agent after leaving Juventus at the conclusion of the last campaign. In addition to the six titles he earned at PSG, the Frenchman also holds an Italian league trophy. Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing him.

Rabiot would not be inexpensive even without a transfer fee, having earned an estimated £145,000 per week before to his departure from Turin. However, considering Sandro Tonali’s probable rustiness following his suspension and the continuous uncertainty surrounding Bruno Guimareaes’ long-term future, Rabiot might

“World-class” Rabiot would be an upgrade on Longstaff

Newcastle has to sign players of Rabiot’s caliber if they are to go past their disappointing season and back into the Champions League. In a good deal, the Frenchman would immediately replace Longstaff. Howe may suddenly have quite the trifecta in Rabiot, Guimaraes, and the Italian when Tonali returns and if he plays well.

League stats 23/24 (via FBref) Adrien Rabiot Sean Longstaff
Progressive Carries 72 24
Progressive Passes 120 145
Tackles Won 39 30
Ball Recoveries 150 120

Rabiot is a guy that should make sense for the Magpies this summer. He brings a lot of experience to the table, is superior defensively than Longstaff, and outperforms the Newcastle man in some places with the ball.

The 29-year-old received high marks from the renowned David Trezeguet while he was deciding on his future at Juventus. Trezeguet stated via JuveFC: “We are talking about a problem for Juventus because in Italy he may have been targeted for criticism, but in France it’s completely different.” He is a phenomenal player of the highest caliber. He will now consider his alternatives and return to his previous role as a key player.
