Celtic fired transfer warning by European chief regarding nine-goal attacker

Celtic have the opportunity to bring in more players in the coming weeks.

Carsten V. Jensen, Director of Football at Brondby, has confirmed that Celtic-linked Mathias Kvitgaarden may be moved this summer, but not for a cheap price. The Danish Superliga side is fighting to keep the attacker in this window, despite interest from other clubs.

The Hoops have been linked with a bid for the 22-year-old ahead of the new season. They won the Scottish Premiership again last season, this time ahead of Rangers, and will be trying to repeat the feat the following season.

Celtic may consider signing Kvitgaarden to strengthen their assault. However, RB Salzburg has been cited as a potential suitor and may provide competition in this particular endeavour.

In an interview with Viaplay, Brondby chief Jensen provided the following update on the player’s situation: “It goes without saying that there is interest when we have a team with such outstanding players. As I previously stated, we now have the advantage of being able to keep the group together while not being compelled to sell – and not for a pittance at all.”

Kvitgaarden spoke with Danish news outlet Campo earlier this summer about his desire to improve himself: “I think I’ve demonstrated myself in a number of ways, which means that I can perhaps play internationally at some point. I am a football player. I’ll be here around 8:30. So I am employed to play football. And then there are many others who are employed to accomplish their jobs.”

The Danish youth international is still hoping to play for the senior team. They qualified for Euro 2024, but were eliminated in the Round of 16 by hosts Germany, who had Celtic newcomer Kasper Schmeichel in goal.

Kvitgaarden formerly played for Skjold Birkerød and Lyngby, before joining Brondby in 2015. He has now advanced through the ranks of his current team, breaking into the senior squad in 2020.

The attacker has subsequently made 83 appearances in all competitions, scoring 23 goals, nine of which came last season. His contract expires in 2027, so Brondby is not under any rush to cash in on him just yet and can wait for the appropriate offer to come in.

Celtic may need to pay a significant transfer price to secure his signing. Time will tell whether they pursue a deal with him or look elsewhere for prospects.
