Now, Saido Berahino has opened up about his failed move to Spurs in an interview with Rising Ballers. In fact, the former West Brom striker claims that Mauricio Pochettino nearly brought him to Tottenham, but Daniel Levy ruined the deal.

Speaking on his near-transfer to Spurs, Berahino detailed how Daniel Levy’s attempt to demand £1 million upfront as part of a £20 million deal derailed the agreement.
“West Brom refused to give me up. I just wanted to go forward because Tottenham was the next step, said Berahino.
Anyone in my situation, I believe, would have preferred to go on. It was a large, excellent club. I mean no offense to West Brom. Pochettino gave me a lot of positive vibes and a promise. I thought that going there would help me advance, but that didn’t happen.
“The chairman of West Brom at the time was straightforward and unvocal. Daniel Levy and the chairman of West Brom are the worst businesspeople because they do things their way.
“I discovered that the reason for this was the extremely poor bargain on the table. The £20 million Tottenham wanted to sign me was £1 million up.
If you go back ten years, Berahino was one of the most desirable young players in English football.
Berahino appeared to be a future star as he was scoring goals for West Brom.
But that form faded very rapidly, and he would play football in League One before he turned thirty.
Spurs struck it lucky in this transaction, since Berahino’s career trajectory suggests that a £20 million acquisition would not have been a wise investment.
Rather, Spurs began to rely more and more on Harry Kane, and it’s safe to say that was a wise decision.
