Newcastle join race to sign £25m winger shortlisted for Golden Boy award in 2022

Newcastle United is reportedly planning a summer transfer window raid for a highly-rated young winger.

The previous season, the Tynesiders came dangerously close to missing out on European football when Manchester United’s FA Cup victory prevented them from earning a spot in the Europa Conference League despite finishing in seventh position.

Eddie Howe will therefore have a big investment to make in order to contend for the top six this season.

In light of this, Newcastle has entered the hunt to sign a winger valued at £25 million.

Newcastle join race to sign Wilfried Gnonto

Newcastle United is reportedly in the running to recruit Wilfried Gnonto, a winger for Leeds United, according to TEAMtalk.

The attacker, who was considered for the Golden Boy award in 2022 and was born in 2003, is reportedly the target of the Magpies.

However, Everton and teams in his home country of Italy are also keeping an eye on his circumstances, so they are not the only ones who are interested.

It’s said that Gnonto is keen to go from Leeds to the Premier League this summer, and the Championship team may approve his sale if his £25 million asking price is satisfied.

Gnonto appears to be Newcastle’s top choice to increase their attacking depth, since he has the potential to start most games.

Wilfried Gnonto profile

Gnonto is a highly versatile forward who has played as a number 10, a center-forward, and off both flanks. The 20-year-old is considered one of Italy’s brightest talents and has already earned 13 caps. Despite not playing in his preferred position, Gnonto scored nine goals and provided three assists in 44 appearances last season. In other news, Crysencio Summerville’s outstanding play forced Gnonto to play on the right, but he is still an effective off the left, so Gnonto is most effective off the left.
