John Hughes says Brendan Rodgers is about to sign a ‘real diamond’ for Celtic

The transfer chat has ramped up this week as the rumours surrounding Celtic and new signings really take hold.

We’ve already talked about how Celtic appears to be keeping a close eye on players like Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Viljami Sinisalo, the goalkeeper for Aston Villa, this week.

It appears like Celtic will make their first summer acquisition this week after weeks of a lot of rumors but no action.

And former Celtic defender John Hughes is quite enthused about one specific linked player.

Hughes: Kasper Schmeichel is ‘the best goalkeeper I have ever worked with’

When Fabricio Romano said that the “final details” were being worked out for a trade, the rumors that Kasper Schmeichel would be joining Celtic really started to pick up steam at the end of last week.

And if he passes his medical this week, Hughes thinks Celtic are going to make a “unbelievable” addition.

“The biggest bonus in all of this is that Brendan knows Kasper and has worked with him before,” Hughes stated [The Celtic Way print edition, page 4]. That cannot be replaced in any way.

Leicester City Manager Brendan Rodgers with Kasper Schmeichel of Leicester City after the Premier League match between Leicester City and Mancheste...

“Kasper will have to follow in Hart’s footsteps by going into a captain’s room where Callum McGregor is in charge, paying attention to his captain, and offering assistance wherever he can. He will act in that manner immediately. He’ll integrate into Celtic’s culture and end up being one of Callum’s most reliable lieutenants in the park. He is humane.

“Kasper is a decent individual. It all comes down to setting expectations, and he will do just that in the Celtics locker room.

With this one, Brendan has selected a true gem of a goalie for Celtic. He has, in fact. I have never worked with a better goalie than him. Like his father Peter, he is astonishingly talented. At this rate, he may play for Celtic until his 40s if he so chooses.

Schmeichel has a great deal of gaming experience. The 37-year-old is a safe pair of hands to succeed Joe Hart, having played in the final 16 of the Euro 2024 tournament and earning 105 caps for Denmark.

Along with winning the English Premier League, an FA Cup, and the Community Shield with Leicester, the former Leicester goalie has also seen success in his native country. since Hughes mentioned, joining up with Rodgers will be an added benefit, since the Celtic manager is familiar with his qualities.

Having Schmeichel signed and on that plane would be a major boost to the squad, especially with the 2024 USA Summer Tour starting next week.
