Elliot Anderson makes ‘really tough’ Newcastle admission after transfer bombshell on holiday

Last month, Newcastle United reluctantly sold Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest to boost finances, and the midfielder confessed it was difficult to leave his hometown club.

Elliot Anderson left Newcastle United after hearing the news while on holiday with his family, admitting it was a difficult decision.

Anderson joined Nottingham Forest for £35 million last month after Newcastle had to raise finances to meet Premier League profit and sustainability requirements. To avoid a points deduction, Newcastle sold two promising players, Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, to Forest and Brighton, respectively.

Although Minteh never had the opportunity to train with his teammates, never alone represent the club, Anderson made all but two first-team appearances under current manager Eddie Howe, who preferred not to lose the versatile midfielder. Anderson, after all, was a well regarded character at the club, as evidenced by the texts he received from teammates Anthony Gordon, Sven Botman, Joe Willock, Jacob Murphy, Tino Livramento, and Fabian Schar following his departure.

Anderson has been with the club since the age of eight, so leaving was ‘daunting’, but an exciting chance awaits as a possible starter at Nottingham Forest.

“It was really tough,” he told club media regarding the transfer. “I was on holiday with my family when I received the news. It was difficult, but it’s incredibly thrilling to start your adventure and really push yourself to see what you can do.”
