Chelsea transfer U-turn claim as complex Ollie Watkins deal considered

The newest Aston Villa transfer news includes Ollie Watkins in Chelsea’s pursuit for a striker.

Chelsea’s long-running quest for a striker may lead them to target Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins.

Villa and their opponents’ transfer window has been interwoven, with business struck between the West Midlands and West London earlier this summer.

Jhon Duran’s transfer was rumoured, but did not happen. Chelsea is still looking for a striker, but returning for the Colombian may worsen Unai Emery’s situation.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea is seeking for a young forward with potential for development. Duran and Samuel Omorodion of Atletico Madrid were among those who fell into this group.

Stamford Bridge officials are reportedly said to be eyeing a seasoned striker. The names cited are Julian Alvarez, Alexander Isak, Victor Osimhen, and Watkins.

Before making his international debut in last week’s Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands, the 28-year-old was already a Villa hero. Developing becoming a major member of Emery’s squad, he was the Premier League’s leading goal scorer in 2023/24, trailing only Erling Haaland in the scoring charts.

However, to keep Villa fans calm for the time being, the source adds that Chelsea would find such a move for any of the four attackers ‘complicated’, while it is unclear whether new manager Enzo Maresca is satisfied with his present attacking options.
