Aston Villa transfer agreed & medical underway ahead of double swoop after Newcastle United talks

Aston Villa transfer agreed & medical underway ahead of double swoop after Newcastle United talks.

As the Scottish Premiership winners finalise two custodian agreements, Martin Dubravka is expected to miss out on a possible move to Celtic.

Following Joe Hart’s football retirement, the Hoops reportedly spoke with Dubravka in an attempt to find a replacement.

But someone else is expected to sign on—a past Premier League victor.

Former Leicester City goalie Kasper Schmeichel is going through his medical, according to Sky Sports News.

Viljami Sinisalo, Schmeichel’s backup, is expected to be acquired by Celtic as well after the two parties reached a £1 million agreement.

That virtually eliminates the possibility that Dubravka will visit Parkhead this summer. Still, other teams, especially Saudi Pro League clubs, are showing interest.

It is anticipated that, following six and a half years, the 35-year-old will go from St. James’ Park.

While Nick Pope and Mark Gillespie have stayed with the team, Newcastle has added Odysseas Vlachodimos and John Ruddy in the past two weeks.

When asked about his plans to play for Newcastle before representing Slovakia in Euro 2024, Dubravka responded, “I know there are rumours, teammates ask me about it, agents and people call me, if there is any truth to it.”

“A year ago, there was some truth to that, and as you can see, I stayed in Newcastle, so I continue to treat it that way: if there isn’t an official offer on the table, I won’t deal at all.

I made it clear to my agents that I would only take it under consideration if there was a concrete offer. It is merely making some noises at the moment.”
