Rangers could sign speedy star who plays like a £20m + talent

Rangers could sign speedy star who plays like a £20m + talent.

Glasgow Rangers’ chances of winning the league title back at Ibrox are slim, with three weeks before the start of the Premiership campaign.

It’s clear that Philippe Clement is making the most of what he has, but the Belgian is by no means a miracle worker.

Only one of the seven summer signings made it onto the pitch for the weekend’s 2-1 preseason loss. The most concerning thing was that Tom Lawrence and Cyriel Dessers, two players who appeared to be trade candidates this summer, started the game for the Rangers.

In order to acquire money for new players—experience required—Clement must move quickly to sell players, with Champions League qualifying on the line in the upcoming weeks.

As Clement investigates other markets, there have been connections with a number of highly regarded young players lately, and a player who is now flourishing in South America has been flagged as a possible target this summer.

Rangers keen on signing Chilean sensation

Gonzalo Tapia, a teenage winger from South America, has piqued the curiosity of the Light Blues in recent weeks, and they may make a move for him before the 2019–20 season.

At the beginning of the month, journalist Victor Morales posted an update on X, stating that Anderlecht was interested in Gonzalo Tapia, a football player from Universidad Católica. Anderlecht intends to hire the football player because of his low value, although Rangers and CSKA Moscow are also interested in signing the Chilean.

It’s obvious that the Ibrox team has competition for the 22-year-old, but Clement may have an advantage in their chase given the opportunity to compete in the Champions League, win medals, and take part in one of the biggest derbies worldwide.

Another plus for the management is that any acquisition might not break the bank because his contract expires in December of this year.

It’s always a risk to sign players in a market that hasn’t been explored before, but given his current status, Clement has to start taking chances if he wants to lead Rangers back to the summit of Scottish football.

Tapia has a lot of potential, and playing with superior players might be possible for him if he relocated to Europe. In addition, because of his skill set and qualities, he has been compared to Juventus winger Federico Cheisa, who is valued at £23 million. Should he relocate to Scotland, this might make him an interesting addition.

How Federico Chiesa and Tapia are similar

When Tapia was barely 19 years old, in March 2021, football talent scout Jacek Kulig highlighted him, calling him a “flamboyant winger” and adding, “He was and still is an absolute star of Chile’s youth national teams.” Undoubtedly, one of Chile’s most intriguing players right now.

In addition, Kulig asserted that Chiesa, who was then creating a name for himself in Serie A, was the player most akin to Tapia.

A few months after this comparison was made, the Italian wide player went on to shine at Euro 2020, scoring twice for his country as they won their first continental title since 1968.
