Monchi ‘Disagrees’ Over Aston Villa Signing £27m Star

Monchi ‘Disagrees’ Over Aston Villa Signing £27m Star.

Ben Jacobs exclusively told GIVEMESPORT that Villa sporting director Monchi hasn’t bought into a deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso, despite the player’s admiration for Unai Emery. Aston Villa is in the market for new, excellent recruits after shockingly securing a Champions League spot last season via a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

Lo Celso spent two seasons playing for Paris Saint-Germain under Emery, where he won the domestic triple crown in his second season. The two later reunited at Villarreal in 2021–2022, spending a further half season together on the eastern coast of Spain before Emery moved to the west Midlands.

There have been rumours of a potential trade that would see Jacob Ramsey go to Villa Park in exchange for cash and the Argentine, whom Emery supposedly wants. However, Jacobs feels that Villa’s top brass are not in agreement about signing Lo Celso.

Lo Celso Could be Part of Tottenham and Villa Swap.

According to reports from the previous week, Tottenham and Villa were negotiating a trade that would send Jacob Ramsey to north London. Lo Celso would join Ramsey at Villa Park, while another Tottenham player would move to the midlands.

Ramsey is reportedly much sought after by Spurs, and according to Football Insider, Villa values him at £50 million. Tottenham is reportedly willing to make players pay less for the player. The article did, however, imply that Villa is hesitant to trade him and that, since they have already parted ways with Douglas Luiz, a deal between the two teams is no longer necessary.

Jacobs: Monchi “Not Bought in” on Lo Celso

The Villa sporting director isn’t convinced by the deal

Speaking only to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs claimed that Villa would find it difficult to part with their indigenous talent and that, as a result, even Lo Celso arriving would not be a suitable replacement for them to accept. He declared:

“With Jacob Ramsey, I believe Tottenham will have difficulty moving forward unless they are willing to make extremely significant and un-Daniel Levy-like financial offers. It’s essentially the same package that was given prior to the financial deadline, despite the fact that fresh stories of the same swap arrangement are starting to surface.

“And because Aston Villa doesn’t want to lose Jacob Ramsey, a sizable sum of money will probably need to be offered.

“Of course, the advantage of Lo Celso that Tottenham are using is the fact that he played under Unai Emery at Paris Saint-Germain and Villarreal, but there is no indication that Monchi, who is equally as important, has bought in on that deal yet.”

Lo Celso’s Tottenham Career Hasn’t Been Fruitful

The midfielder hasn’t breached first-team territory

Lo Celso joined Tottenham five years ago, but after an initial loan spell, he hasn’t quite had the impact imagined of him in north London following a permanent £27m deal.

Giovani Lo Celso’s Premier League statistics – Tottenham squad ranking
Stats Output Squad rank
Appearances 22 =15th
Goals 2 =10th
Key Passes Per Game 0.8 10th
Pass Percentage Per Game 91.5 6th
Match rating 6.49 18th

He has only made 77 Premier League first-team games in those five years, coupled with two loan stints at Villarreal, so he isn’t entirely committed to the team’s plans. Even if he doesn’t sign with Villa in the summer, he may choose to play for another team.
