Miami Heat Fire Back at Reports of Severe Nikola Jovic Injury…

Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic has sustained an injury, which is concerning given his importance to the team’s future. However, reports have ranged widely on the severity of Jovic’s ankle ailment, with senior Heat beat reporters dismissing tales from Serbia of a shattered ankle.

We know that Jovic sustained the injury during a practice with the Heat at the Kaseya Center in Miami last month. Concerns were aroused when images showed him using a walking boot. Since then, he has been unable to practice with his native nation, Serbia, in preparation for the Paris Olympics, and he will miss the team’s first warm-up game against France on Friday.

According to Meridian Sport (via NBC Sports), Jovic has an ankle fracture that will prevent him from competing in the Olympics, and the ailment will also likely keep him out of the NBA season opener. However, the Heat responded to such concept via the Miami Herald and South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

“Despite reports from European media outlets that forward Nikola Jovic has a fractured ankle and will miss the Olympics for Serbia, the Miami Heat’s medical staff is defining that injury as a sprain, as well as a metatarsal fracture, with no formal Heat determination yet on Jovic’s Olympic status,” the newspaper’s Ira Winderman wrote.
