Everton plot raid on La Liga club for 27-year-old versatile defender ‘The Hard Tackle’

Everton will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old versatile Paraguayan defender Omar Alderete from La Liga club Getafe in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old Getafe defender has emerged as a target for the Merseyside team, Everton, who have been searching the market for a center-back heading into the summer transfer season, according to a report by the Paraguayan outlet Versus.

Who is Omar Alderete?

When Omar Alderete transferred from Hertha BSC to Getafe, he made significant development. His early years were spent in his hometown Asuncion, where he graduated from Cerro Porteno’s youth division. He has since represented clubs in Germany, Spain, Argentina, and Switzerland.

The 27-year-old’s greatest achievements have come in Spain, particularly during his current contract with Getafe. Alderete was first signed by the Arizona Arizonas in August 2022 on a season-long loan, then last summer, he completed a permanent move. The player has made 63 appearances for the Spanish team thus far, with one goal and two assists.

Meanwhile, a number of renowned teams throughout Europe have taken notice of Omar Alderete’s development at Getafe. The Paraguayan international is being courted by Everton to join them in the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

La Liga to Premier League this summer?

It makes sense that Everton would be interested in Omar Alderete. Concerns about Jarrad Branthwaite’s long-term future have the Toffees searching the market for a center-back going into the summer transfer window. Manchester United is eager to sign the Englishman, therefore Everton needs to find a possible substitute.

Everton had set their sights on Jacob Greaves before losing to Ipswich Town in the chase. Thus, Alderete has become a viable possibility for the Merseyside club to take into consideration. Sevilla, though, will present a formidable rivalry for Everton in the pursuit of the 27-year-old from La Liga side Getafe.

It could be alluring to think about starting an experience in the Premier League. Though Getafe only paid €4 million for the Paraguayan international last summer, it will be intriguing to see how much they seek to part ways.
