Postecoglou’s strongest Spurs XI vs Hearts as Phillips starts, Udogie question

Here’s a look at the best Tottenham XI Ange Postecoglou can field for the team’s forthcoming pre-season friendly against Scottish club Hearts at Tynecastle.

Tottenham’s first pre-season friendly of the summer is less than two weeks away. Spurs’ pre-season begins on Wednesday, July 17, with a friendly against Scottish Premiership team Hearts at Tynecastle.

The Lilywhites have six friendly scheduled for the summer, making this their first game of the season. Three days after their meeting against Hearts in Edinburgh, Tottenham travel across London to face Championship side QPR at Loftus Road.

The club will next go to Japan to play Vissel Kobe in Tokyo before moving on to South Korea to play club K League and Bayern Munich. Spurs will face the German team again seven days later at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Harry Kane and Eric Dier returning to N17 after joining Bayern last season.

Postecoglou should have a strong squad for their first friendly against Hearts, given just a few players were called up for international events this summer. Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg may return to Hotspur Way after the Hearts game to begin pre-season preparations, since they are currently on a well-deserved rest following their Euro 2024 elimination.

Postecoglou may be without Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso, and Rodrigo Bentancur for the Hearts game due to their participation in the Copa America, as well as Micky van de Ven, who advanced to the Euros quarter-finals with the Netherlands.Tottenham Hotspur may field new acquisitions Lucas Bergvall and Archie Grey against Hearts, while Timo Werner returns from a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.
