Everton make multimillion pound transfer bid for former Tottenham ace Davinson Sanchez

According to Ali Naci Küçük, Everton has made a £16 million offer to sign Galatasaray defender Davinson Sanchez.

The former Tottenham centre back was the subject of a proposal by the Toffees, but the Istanbul giants now plan to keep him at the club, the Turkish journalist reported to Futbol Arena on July 5.

Gala only signed the Colombian international from Spurs last season, and they want to get paid about €30 million [£25.4 million] if they allow him to depart this summer.

The 28-year-old scored in his country’s 3-0 victory over Panama on June 29 to help them top their group at the Copa America, where he has started the first three matches.

After Ben Godfrey leaves, Everton makes a financial offer for a new defender.

When it comes to centre backs at Goodison Park, the main focus has been on the future of star English prospect Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been passed over by Manchester United in their attempts to sign him.

Since Sean Dyche also has his former Burnley charge, James Tarkowski, as the other regular starter, it’s possible that the Toffees player is linked to the pursuit of Sanchez for the kind of money that seems necessary.

But Ben Godfrey was transferred to Atalanta after turning down offers for a new contract [HITC, June 11]. As a result, the centre of defence needs choices, as Michael Keane and Mason Holgate are the present backups and have both been far from optimal for some time.Notwithstanding the fact that Sanchez has 62 international caps, 143 Premier League games under his belt, plus more than 50 Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League appearances, Sanchez may have lost favour at Spurs as the London team went through several managers.

Tim Iroegbunam and Iliman Ndiaye have already signed permanent contracts, and Everton is interested in signing more defenders. However, with the deadline for profit and sustainability concerns having passed on June 30 and a Dan Freidkin takeover proceeding well, it is unclear how much money will be available to spend this summer.

As it stands, though, Sanchez would undoubtedly be the best backup if Dyche and Kevin Thelwell decide it would be worthwhile to pursue him.
