Brazil icon Cafu hails ‘very good’ £25m Everton target after West Ham bid

Since being hired as the technical director of West Ham United, Tim Steidten has accrued a significant amount of flight miles.

Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez, two former Ajax players, were able to secure transfers to the Premier League through in-person negotiations conducted in Amsterdam. Steidten again visited Brazil during the summer of last year, but his attempt to entice Yuri Alberto to leave Internacional ultimately failed.

A £14 million bid for Alberto was turned down by West Ham.

According to The Standard, the former manager of Wolfsburg and Bayer Leverkusen was recently back in South America.

Should Luis Guilherme—the ‘amazing’ £25 million adolescent who shot to prominence from Palmeiras—live up to his enormous potential, the cost of the ticket will have been well worth it.

West Ham’s pursuit of fellow Brazilian Fabricio Bruno ended very differently, however. HITC understands that talks with the Flamengo centre-back broke down due to his eye-watering £100,000-a-week wage demands.

Everton and West Ham are interested in Wesley Gassova.

But what is the situation regarding Wesley Gassova?

The Corinthians whizzkid who, HITC has been told, will cost a similar fee to the aforementioned Guilherme. West Ham, back in May, offered around half of that £25 million asking price.

There is interest too from Crystal Palace, Fulham and Everton, with speculation over in Brazil raising it’s head again this week.

Your typical right-footed left winger who likes to cut inside and use his speed to race away from full-backs, 19-year-old Wesley is almost certain to be on his way across the Atlantic at some point in the near future; following in the footsteps of Guilherme, Endrick, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Gabriel Martinelli and more.

And Cafu, one of the bonafide legends of Brazilian football, would love to see Wesley follow in his footsteps at Italian giants AS Roma.

“What do Roma need in the market? You always have to find the right players, (and) never buy just for the sake of buying,” Cafu, the iconic right-back who was part of that 2002 World Cup-winning squad, tells Il Messaggero.

“The very strong one is Endrick, but he has now gone to Real Madrid.

“However, I am banking on Wesley from Corinthians. He is a very good left winger. He will be our next joy. That’s why I tell Roma to sign him.

“Without a doubt, I recommend him.”

A Brazilian talent wants £25 million from Corinthians.

It remains to be seen if West Ham would be prepared to spend a total of £50 million for two young Brazilian wingers. However, there is no reason why Guilherme and Wesley, who prefer to start on the right while the latter lingers on the left, could not succeed on the same Hammers team.

Crystal Palace and Fulham, two other bidders, have also recently exploited the Brazilian market; Everton, on the other hand, has to be more innovative and creative in their assault.

Matheus Franca was brought to Selhurst Park by Palace at great financial expense last summer. Franca has found it difficult to deal with the English game’s physicality thus far.

Expert from South America Tim Vickery, speaking to talkSPORT on May 22, at 3 p.m., had little worry that Wesley might encounter similar problems.

According to Vickery, “he is one of these inverted wingers that Brazilian football is producing a lot.” “He differs slightly from those in that many of them are physically weak. Though he’s built! He resembles a horse.

“My skepticism—which is tempered by the fact that he is incredibly promising—is that playing English football takes away his acceleration room. He still has time to run, and defenders should be wary of him right now.

If that space is taken away, he will need to develop more “reduced-space” abilities.

But he’s a nightmare for full-backs and a very, very interesting prospect. You will be afraid if he is rushing at you.
