Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Michael Kayode but face Aston Villa competition
According to Italian outlet Viola News, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on talented Fiorentina right-back Michael Kayode this summer but face competition for his signature in the form of Aston Villa.
We had mentioned recently that Tottenham and AC Milan are in negotiations over a transfer for Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal with the player already giving the green light to move to Italy. However, the two parties are yet to agree on the terms.
There would be a huge defensive void if the former Barcelona player joined the Rossoneri, as Pedro Porro is the only acknowledged right-back on the team. Yes, Archie Gray is a new addition to the team, but Postecoglou may consider the adolescent to be a midfielder.
If that’s the case, Spurs will need to go elsewhere for a right-back, and it’s not surprise that they could look to the Serie A. After all, the North London team has had a successful season in the Italian top division.
The player in question is Fiorentina’s right-back Michael Kayode. The 19-year-old’s displays last season have caught the eye and he really looks like a player with a high ceiling. The Italy U-21 international looks like a generational talent judging by the way he plays.
Premier League clubs Spurs and Villa are interested in securing his signature but do not want to fork out in excess of €20m. The Italian club on the other hand know they have the stronger hand in this negotiation and want to wait it out for €25m.
Even while the difference in value doesn’t appear all that great, it’s important to keep in mind that this is a 19-year-old. The amount Fiorentina is requesting is unusual; typically, such sums are given to players who clearly have a ton of promise.
The addition of Gray is probably going to put a wrench in any potential deal for Kayode. Not to diminish the young Italian player in any way, but why sign a new player when we already have a capable one on staff?
Even if Kayode is a tremendous talent, we can’t sign him despite our recent trend of signing young players with a lot of promise. It doesn’t make financial sense, and the money would be better spent strengthening the squad in another area.
