Joelinton was given a new contract by Newcastle United as soon as Dan Ashworth was placed on gardening leave.
The Brazilian ended speculation that he might leave St. James’ Park in the summer by inking a long-term contract there back in April.
It was a legitimate worry because Joelinton was about to approach the final year of his original deal, which he signed with Newcastle United for £40 million in 2019.
The talks had stalled, and the Magpies were concerned that they could have to sell a quality player this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing after a year.
Nevertheless, Newcastle was able to come to a deal to keep Joelinton on the team even without a sports director. It delighted Eddie Howe and Bruno Guimaraes as well as the Toon Army.

According to The Telegraph, Ashworth was holding off on signing Joelinton because he was aware earlier in the year that Newcastle United might need to trade the midfield midfielder this summer because of a PSR problem.
Naturally, with Ashworth out of the picture, Newcastle decided to extend their contract to Joelinton, enabling Howe to hold onto a player he believes is critical to his team’s success.
Newcastle was forced to look elsewhere for a solution to their PSR problem as a result. Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh left the Magpies on June 30 in an attempt to avoid receiving a point penalty.
Although Joelinton may have addressed Newcastle’s PSR issue, Howe will be content to retain him.
Though Ashworth is no longer well-liked by Toon fans, you can understand his perspective on Joelinton.
The team had a player who was set to enter the final year of his contract and could fetch as much as £50 million, so they realized they would need to raise money.
Joelinton’s loss would have been catastrophic because he was thought to be a viable solution to a problem that may have cost the Magpies a lot of points. And it appears like every possibility has been considered as the deadline draws near, even selling star player Anthony Gordon.
However, the prospect of selling Joelinton disappeared the moment he inked a new deal, and Eddie Howe showed no concern for it. After an injury delayed his 2023–24 campaign, the 27-year-old—one of his most important and reliable players—will be a great talent to witness in action next season.
