Nottingham Forest transfer confirmed after heartfelt goodbye message

most recent Nottingham Forest transfer news as the Reds proceed their activity during the crucial summer window

It is official that Lyon will acquire Nottingham Forest defender Moussa Niakhate.

The center back’s two years at Trentside are over as he moves to France. In the summer of 2022, Niakhate joined the Reds as part of their recruitment push after being promoted to the Premier League, paying £13 million to leave Mainz.

Despite certain limitations due to injuries, he contributed to Forest’s survival in the last two seasons by making 37 appearances in the Garibaldi. He was a key player in the dressing room even when he wasn’t playing.

Concerning the 28-year-old, there has been some disagreement regarding the amount involved.According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Lyon paid him £20 million.

Niakhate was also coveted by Lille and Crystal Palace, according to Foot Mercato. But it appears that Orel Mangala, a midfielder, played a role in persuading the Senegalese international to pick Lyon. Mangala moved on a permanent basis to the Ligue 1 team after spending the second part of the previous season there on loan.

“We wish Moussa all the best for his future and thank him for his contributions during his time at the club,” Forest stated in a statement. Before the news of his departure was official, Niakhate wrote a heartfelt farewell letter to Forest supporters. In addition to owner Evangelos Marinakis and his son Miltos, he praised Reds fans, players, and staff for their unwavering “love and support” during both good and bad times.

Niakhate thanked you for making me feel at home right away in a social media post. Every time I stepped onto the field, I could always feel your love and support, but what’s amazing is that I felt it even more at my hardest times, especially after my accident. Even though it was the most trying time in my career, everyone at Forest—including the staff, my teammates, and the supporters—kept me smiling every day, and I will never forget that.

“In the end, we have always succeeded because of the players’ and staff’s tenacity and combativeness in witnessing this historic club’s ascent back to the top.” At our renowned City Ground, we shared extraordinary moments of happiness as well as challenging times, and I’m glad and delighted that we were able to keep our Premier League standing on a sporting level.

Thus, I would want to thank everyone of the club’s employees, security, doctors, and fans. You will always be in my memory. You are all soldiers, my comrades. You are all like brothers to me.

“And lastly, I would want to express my gratitude to Mr. Marinakis and Miltos for their unwavering trust in me and much more. I place a lot more importance on respect and consideration than on football. And I can attest that, thank you, you have been much more to me than just owners.

“I would not alter a single thing about my journey with you if I could. I will only have amazing recollections from my stay here. The feeling that you have grasped my true nature and have come to understand me makes me the happiest, though, and it has taught me that Nottingham Forest is more than just a football team.
