Everton set sights on signing Jackson Tchatchoua soon after confirmed transfer as major profit eyed

Everton want to sign Hellas Verona’s Jackson Tchatchoua just a month after he completed a permanent transfer to the Italian side, according to Tutto Mercato Web.

The Italian outlet reported via their website on 3 July that the Toffees have “set their sights” on the Cameroon international, who the Serie A club only confirmed as making his loan move from Charleroi in Belgium permanent on 3 June, signing on a three-year deal.

TMW report that the deal only cost €2million [£1.69m] last month but with Everton now wanting to bring in the 22-year-old, who can play at right-back or on the wing, Verona are looking to make a sizeable immediate profit by asking for €8m [£6.77m].

Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell eye another Everton signing

Even though Tchatchoua cost four times as much just a few weeks ago, the markup is still reasonable if the team thinks he can play a variety of positions.

In addition to Dwight McNeil, Sean Dyche has added versatile forward Iliman Ndiaye from Marseille and seen Jack Harrison return to the team on loan from Leeds United.

It might be a wise purchase, though, if the manager views the two-cap Tchatchoua as an improvement over his current choices at right back.

Ashley Young, who signed a new one-year contract deal, is technically available for both full-back and winger positions. However, he turned 39 in less than a week and showed inconsistent play during crucial moments of the last campaign.

Although he turned 36 in October, club captain Seamus Coleman has also agreed to a new contract. However, his play has been hindered by injuries in recent years.

Everton Nathan Patterson

Nathan Patterson has had a difficult time at Everton under Sean Dyche.

Ben Godfrey, who was utilized last season but was later traded to Atlanta, and former Rangers player Nathan Patterson have been struggling behind the two veterans.

Dyche doesn’t seem to be convinced by the Scot, and he was part of an embarrassing incident in Portugal last season when a joke went wrong and he had to apologize to his player. It appears that the manager needs to bring in a trustworthy right-back who he can play with regularity.

That may be Tchatchoua, who is reportedly still affordable, and there also seem to be plans to bolster the left side of defense, with ties to Fenerbahce’s Jayden Oosterwolde [Caught Offside, June 21].
