Aston Villa pull Jacob Ramsey U-turn after big twist

After recently balancing their books, Aston Villa is hesitant to sell midfielder Jacob Ramsey, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider reported in May that the club’s biggest summer acquisition was probably 23-year-old Ramsey, an academy graduate.

Nevertheless, Villa sold midfield trio Douglas Luiz, Morgan Sanson, and Tim Iroegbunam before to the June 30 deadline for the club to turn in its 2023–24 financial statements.

It is now expected of the Midlands club to abide with the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Notwithstanding the rollover into a new fiscal year, Tottenham is eager to close a deal for midfield maestro Ramsey.

But Villa have now U-turned on their position on selling the 23-year-old, with a well-placed source telling Football Insider that Emery has decided to keep him, feeling he has a part to play for the Midlands club.

Ramsey may not play for Tottenham until Aston Villa manager Emery makes a choice.

Ramsey is reportedly still regarded as a vital player, especially considering that he will have more Champions League games to play in the 2024–25 season.

Under PSR, any sale for the England Under-21 international would have been recorded in the Villa records as pure profit.

During the 2023–24 season, Ramsey made 21 appearances, recording one goal and two assists.

The 23-year-old’s participation was severely limited by foot and toe problems, as he only made 10 starts.

Since making his debut with Aston Villa in 2019, he has appeared in 122 games overall, scoring 13 goals and providing 12 assists.

Ramsey signed his most recent extension with the Midlands giants two years ago, and his current deal runs through June 2027.
