Aston Villa claims reluctance as Brighton is given the all-clear to spend £25 million.

Brighton is getting closer to a £25 million transfer, and Aston Villa has suffered a setback in their pursuit of a transfer.

Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Chelsea, is apparently no longer available to Aston Villa, which increases Tottenham Hotspur’s prospects of signing him.

The England international is Unai Emery’s top target this summer, but a move may be more difficult than anticipated. While Gallagher’s entire attention is now on competing for the Three Lions in Germany at the 2024 UEFA European Championship, he will likely need to make a significant choice when he returns.

According to The Telegraph, Villa is still keen to recruit Gallagher, but they would have trouble persuading the midfield player because he would be “reluctant” to move to the Midlands. The 24-year-old is reportedly eager to stay at Chelsea and is hoping for a contract extension from the Blues.

With just a year remaining on his current contract, Gallagher is available for sale as Chelsea looks to raise money for transfers in preparation for the upcoming window. Since Gallagher is an academy graduate, any money obtained from a move away would be considered pure profit as far as Premier League standards are concerned.

Similar to Villa, Tottenham has been strongly connected to a possible raid. Given the player’s short contract remaining, Chelsea’s asking price of £50 million is thought to be extremely high; yet, Spurs benefit from being in London as opposed to the Midlands.

Other Premier League transfer rumors include Brighton & Hove Albion is getting closer to acquiring Dutch international midfielder Mats Wieffer, according to reports from the Netherlands. The midfielder reportedly gave Feyenoord, his current team, permission to speak with the Seagulls.

Wieffer was recently mentioned as a target for Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, and Brighton is hoping to close a deal for him. The defensive midfielder, who is expected to fetch roughly £25 million, has played in 79 games for Feyenoord and has produced nine goals and eleven assists.
