Spurs want a £43 million Premier League player who is superior to Kulusevski after Gray.

Ange Postecoglou didn’t have the easiest of debut seasons last season, but it’s still fair to say that making it to the Europa League is a triumph given the injuries he had to do with and Harry Kane’s early departure.

But next year, the Australian will want to lead a team the size of Tottenham Hotspur higher up the Premier League standings than fifth, and he might just be able to

Archie Gray, the wonderkid of Leeds United, was already signed by Daniel Levy and company for a mere £30 million, but the most recent player said to be heading to N17 plays at the sharp end of the pitch and could prove to be an improvement over Dejan Kulusevski.

Spurs considering a Premier League attacker

Spurs have rekindled their interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto in recent days, according to a report from insider Paul O’Keefe.

O’Keefe does not provide a possible cost, but last week, a report from Football Transfers stated that the Old Gold had lowered the winger’s asking price to just £43 million and that Arsenal, a rival team in North London, may have also shown interest in the 24-year-old.

Even though Kulusevski may suffer in the process, Levy and Co. should pursue the trade if they can acquire a player with Neto’s caliber for the stated sum, despite the Gunners’ interest potentially complicating matters.

How Kulusevski and Neto are similar

Because Neto prefers to play off the right of a front three, he will undoubtedly face off against Kulusevski for a starting position if he decides to sign a contract and move to the white side of North London. So what is the comparison between them?

Well, from a pure output perspective, it’s a comprehensive win for the Portuguese international. In 24 appearances last season, he scored three goals and provided 11 assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement every 1.74 games.

In comparison, the Swedish international scored eight goals and provided three assists in 39 appearances, which equates to a goal involvement every 3.54 games.

But what about what’s happening behind the scenes? When we analyze their underlying figures, is the Old Gold’s star winger winning by a comfortable margin again?

Regretfully, it is for the former Juventus star. Data analyst Ben Mattinson nicknamed the 24-year-old “monster” because he leads in most other metrics, such as non-penalty expected goals and assists, progressive passes, shots, key passes, shot and goal-creating actions, successful take-ons, ball recoveries, key passes, and aerial duels won, all per 90 minutes. For instance, he makes fewer progressive passes, maintains a lower passing accuracy, and takes fewer shots on target.

The Wolves star appears to be the superior choice overall, but his injury history—which has cost him 46 games for both club and country in the past two seasons—is the main reason for caution with this gifted winger.

But this might make it possible for Postecoglou to start him and Kulusevski frequently throughout the season, guaranteeing they receive enough playing and rest time.
