Newcastle sign striker who stunned youth scouts in 6-1 win as recruitment drive continues

Kayden Lucas, a 16-year-old striker from Clevedon Town, was signed by Newcastle United after scouts saw him score four goals in a 6-1 victory.

As part of our ongoing academy recruitment push, Lucas, who scored nine goals in just six games for Clevedon Town Under 18s, a team in the ninth tier of English football, was immediately signed by Newcastle on a scholarship.

Lucas, also known as “Chumpy,” is said to not have been the top target for Newcastle scouts at first, but talent scouts in attendance were quite impressed with the teenager’s finishing, intellect, and speed.

The club has already signed four Under-16 players: Aaron Epia, a center-back for Everton; CJ Afumuzor, a midfielder for Portsmouth; and Ezra Tika-Lemba, a former winger for West Ham.

Following several years with the Eredivisie giants, youth coach Jack Brazil joined Newcastle’s Academy coaching staff after leaving PSV to take the helm of the Under-16s.
