Sources claim that Aston Villa and Tottenham are vying for Nico Williams’ signature.

Football Insider has been informed by insiders that Tottenham is keeping a close eye on Athletic Bilbao sensation Nico Williams in anticipation of a possible raid.

The 21-year-old’s reputation has grown as a result of several strong performances for Spain at the German European Championships.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (1 July) that Aston Villa are long-term admirers of Williams’ talents – with manager Unai Emery a “big fan”, sources say.

The winger has a £49million release clause in his Athletic Club contract but his wage demands have put other suitors off in Europe.

Barcelona had been keen to land the 17-cap international but have been scared off – and it is believed Premier League clubs are now the only viable destination if Williams chooses to leave Bilbao

According to sources, the 21-year-old has pleased club executives at Spurs, who consider him as a “star in the making” if he decides to make the switch to the English top division.

The Pamplona native, who made 37 appearances for the Basque powerhouse Athletic Club in all competitions, won the Copa del Rey with the team in 2023–24.

In those games, Williams, who made his senior debut in April 2021, tallied eight goals and nineteen assists.

Tottenham will play Europa League football next term after finishing fifth in the Premier League last term.

Ange Postecolou’s side have already wrapped up deals for Timo Werner and Archie Gray so far this summer.
