And in May, Football Italia reported that there was interest in Buongiorno from Tottenham, Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli.

The latter club now looks set to win the race for the Italy international, according to Fabrizio Romano.

A positive meeting took place between Torino and Napoli and a final agreement on the fee is now imminent, said the transfer insider.

Alessandro Buongiorno, a 25-year-old centre back with the ability to play left back, is reputedly valued at £47 million.

He is a lifelong Torino fan who has been signed to their youth setup since the age of seven. He has spent his whole professional career with them.

After spending time on loan at two other Italian teams, Carpi and Trapani, the 6′ 3″ defender returned to Torino in 2020–21 and established himself as a regular.

In addition to 105 competitive games for Torino, Buongiorno has four caps for Italy.

Carlo Garganese of Football Italia has praised him for his combative play, threat from set pieces, aerial skill, and understanding of the game.

Football Talent Scout‘s Jacek Kulig has described him as “one of the most underrated players in Italy”, “one of the most interesting centre-backs in Serie A” and a “remarkable” player.
