Burnley is reportedly nearing an agreement to sign Kasper Hjulmand, the manager of the Denmark national team, to a contract.

The 52-year-old is now the Clarets’ main target, according to an HITC report, after his team’s elimination from Euro 2024 by hosts Germany over the weekend.

The Turf Moor team is currently searching for a new manager. Vincent Kompany left the team in May to join Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich after his team was relegated from the Premier League after just one season.

Carlton Palmer: Potential Burnley appointment of Kasper Hjulmand would be impressive

Former England international player turned pundit Carlton Palmer believes the appointment of Hjulmand could be a wise choice for the Lancashire side this summer, as they look to return to the top flight at the earliest opportunity.

Hjulmand has been in charge of the national side since August 2020, with one World Cup and two European Championship campaigns under his belt during that time.

The former Nordsjaelland coach was in the dugout as the Danes went toe-to-toe with England in Euro 2020, with Harry Kane’s extra-time penalty rebound earning the Three Lions a 2-1 victory en route to the Wembley final.

The Scandinavian outfit exited the Qatar 2022 World Cup in the group stage, before their most-recent major finals exit came on Saturday, as they went down 2-0 to Germany in Dortmund following goals from Kai Haverts and Jamal Musiala.

Hjulmand has led Denmark to a 60% win percentage overall, demonstrating his power off the pitch. Palmer is pleased with what he has seen this summer and believes that if he were to transfer to Turf Moor, he would succeed.

Palmer, in an exclusive interview with FLW, stated: “Burley is reportedly very close to naming Denmark manager Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager.

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Craig Bellamy are two names who have been linked to the position in numerous reports regarding Burnley’s potential future manager, but it appears that the hunt is almost over.

While he has been Denmark’s manager since 2020, it’s

“I thought Denmark were pretty impressive in Euro 2024, and very unlucky to go out. You could see they were well-disciplined, well-organised, and well-coached.

“So I think he would be a good appointment for Burnley, and they will be looking to get promotion as soon as possible back to the Premier League.”

After players like Frank Lampard and Ruud van Nistelrooy were linked to the Clarets’ hotsteat earlier this summer, Hjulmand is now the most recent name to be associated with the opening at Turf Moor.

The Burnley executives reportedly interviewed former Manchester United striker van Nistelrooy [shown] last month, but the Dutchman has also been linked to a return to Old Trafford in a coaching role.

During the interview process in the northwest, it was also reported that former Derby County boss Lampard was spoken to. The former England star is reportedly seeking a return to football following his interim management of Chelsea at the conclusion of the 22–23 season.
