Murrayfield last option for Rangers as new Ibrox redevelopment update emerges

According to Roger Hannah, Murrayfield might be the Rangers’ “last option” given the delays in the renovation of the Copland Road Stand at Ibrox.

After repairs at the Gers’ home field was postponed over the off-season, the Light Blues are apparently in talks about a possible temporary shift to the home of Scottish rugby, which might run for the whole month of August [Scottish Sun, 20 June].

Hannah, the head of sport for The Scottish Sun, has declared that Murrayfield is the only choice, despite the fact that Hampden Park and a reduced Ibrox have been suggested as potential temporary solutions.

“Is it still possible to open Ibrox with three sides?” he asked in a statement posted on July 1 Superscoreboard. It doesn’t look that way right now.

Is it possible to get to Hampden, which seems like the most convenient and nearby location? Right now, it doesn’t appear that way because the pitch is being dug up and relayed following Saturday night’s Pink concert there.

Is there anywhere else kids can play? Murrayfield appears to be the only viable choice left.

In the uncertainty surrounding Ibrox, will Rangers host their home games at Murrayfield?

The entire situation is a complete mess, and the people in charge of running Ibrox behind the scenes should be hanging their heads in shame for allowing this to happen so close to the start of the season. The league campaign for Philippe Clement’s team is now just a few weeks away, and before then, Champions League qualifiers are scheduled, and fans still don’t know where to watch their team. Those opening fixtures could be crucial to not only the Light Blues’ season, but also to Clement’s hopes of keeping his job—we’ve seen Gers managers fired in the past few years after their teams performed poorly in the preseason. Hopefully, the club will provide some clarity sooner rather than later, but until then, fans will have no idea where they can watch their team play.
